25F (-3.8C) Last Night - Covered My Precious Hops And Peonies - 05-14-2013

We had a cold front move in last night which is not unusual for this area. I did not want to take a chance so I covered my hops and peonies.

I used industrial grade trash bags and clothes pins.

I also covered my tree peony
And my peony sorbets. I just showed one in the blog.
The next morning, after a hard frost and 25F, I uncovered the plants and none were damaged.

Here is one hop.

Now That's What I Call A Dandelion Root !!! 05-10-2013

Removed all of the dandelions from the right section of the front yard garden today.

And I removed this one. Wait it gets better.
Look at the length of the root.
Yup, over 40' inches (101 cm) !
The root was oriented 24" straight down and then ran horizontal.

You never know what you are going to find in your garden. That is what makes gardening so exciting!

Hops 05-05-2013

My Mt. Hood hops jumped out the ground two days ago. They caught me completely off guard. This will be their second year. The bines are thick and dark green. They get full sun. I spread rotted cow manure over them last Fall. I covered them with mulch for the winter.  We've had warm sunny weather for about a week.  I water them every morning. They look happy.

I will post progress photos as they grow. The neighbors are going to love me if they grow to their full height of 40ft!
